in honor of tonight, what are everyones favorite NYE shows. IMHO, the shows around the NYE Runs- dec 27, 28th, 30th are usually better then the 31st, with a few exceptions

1981, 1987, and 1990 are my 3 favorites-
opinions please

im headed to good ol kent ohio to throw back a few, ok 12 in honor of 2008, cranking up 12 31 87 for the drive

I agree with '81, that was a show for the ages, and the whole run was stellar. I would have to put '78 and '72 up there as well.

I'd also include '82 if only for the bluesy 3rd set with Etta Lames....Lovelight...Hard To Handle....Tell Mama.......Baby What You Want Me To Do.....Midnight Hour.... Did the Dead ever do a better All Blues Set??? I don't think so....Awesome Stuff!!

My favorites are '69,'72, '82 w/ Etta James, but this year I have to go with the Closing Of Winterland anniversary. Great show too!
My "sleeper" show, (and non-Dead, but Dead related NYE show, was Cow Palace 12-31-73 with Jerry, Billy and Boz Scaggs joining the Allmans for a classic NYE show.
Since I have no plans to go out and party tonight I think I'll roll up a smoke, break out some wine and put on The Closing Of Winterland DVD, the 12-31-73 ABB show and listen to some good music to ring in 2009. Happy New Years people!
